Our body is a sanctuary and if we know how to take care of it, our body won’t betray us. But if we lack the education, the drive and the tools to take care of our body, it may seem that our health deteriorates. I had heard of colonic cleansing but I’d never done it before or seen how it’s done. I only knew it was a procedure you get done sometimes when needed for surgery. So as I made my way up the stairs of the older building in St. Anthony toward Soothing Waters, I was excited. Not only because I would get to sit with owner Maria Green, but I was going to get an inner look at what colonics could do for me.

“People don’t know how much colonics could help. It’s something not a lot of our Hmong community is open to because, well, it starts from the bottom up. It’s not painful at all. Needles, now needles are painful,” Maria says as she and I sit down.

Her intimate office is dimly lit and offers me a welcoming sensation as I listen to her describe the work she’s done and the help she’s given to people. “I love healing and helping people. It’s been a part of me for a long time. I believe that in order for us to be healthy, truly healthy, it starts from within. When I was in Michigan, I was a very heavy woman and I tried colonics for the first time. It changed my life. It helped me lose weight and I am aware of what I put into my body. Plus it made me into a vegetarian!”

So what is colon hydrotherapy and what can it do? “It cleanses and detoxifies your body. It will help you achieve regular bowel movements, especially to those who see blood in their stools. There’s so much parasite inside of us from all the things we eat especially sushi. Trust me, I have seen a lot of things that have come out of people and they are shocked that it was inside them.”

A lot of our Hmong community suffers from health issues and it’s because it’s from within. It can be from the food choice they choose to eat to that they are not drinking enough water. “I tell people all the time, drink water. When you don’t have enough water, your body is dry. And everything you eat gets trapped there in your colon.” It is what you put into your body that is making you feel the way you do. Be smart in your choice of food and drink. Limit the amount of raw food you intake because they are parasites inside your body and could create infection.

“Our Hmong community is afraid of what they do not know. Colon cleansing is a good way to get rid of toxins inside your body. Think of it this way. When your sink is clogged with years of dirt, hair and food, you buy Drano to unclog it. It’s the same thing. Colon cleansing helps improve your metabolic efficiency and improves the functions of all organs.”

I received a tour in her office and it was such a welcoming area from the front door to where the colon cleansing took place. Maria has such a warm and friendly place to help cleanse you of toxins and energy healing to those who may be fighting with negative forces. Inside her walls is a place to release all baggage and begin fresh and new.

“My main purpose is to help make you feel better when you leave my door,” Maria says with a smile.
